Lifting the Lid – Loan Boxes and Resource Packs
To improve access to local heritage we continue to develop our series of themed Resource Boxes, which combine artefacts, documents and photographic material from the House on Crutches Museum Collection, together with comprehensive Teacher’s Packs. These provide educationalists with extensive project and lesson ideas based on items found in each themed Resource Box and which can be easily adapted to meet the requirements of each Key Stage.
We recommend early booking of Resource Boxes so that we can provide you with our Teacher’s Ideas Packs to help with the planning of your chosen topic.
Themes available include:
- At Home with the Victorians – A look at the world of the Victorians
- Changing Town – Examining the changing face of a small market town.
- The 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s
- Childhood
- Catching the Train – A look at the troubled history of Bishop’s Castle Railway in addition to general activities relating to railway transportation (produced in collaboration with Bishop’s Castle Railway Society)
- Smile Please – Developments in photography circa 1860 to 1950
- All Dressed up and Nowhere to go! – An examination of clothing and accessories
- Packaging
- Bishop’s Castle Heritage Resource Centre – A Case Study – a look at how a unique volunteer run organisation operates.
- Archaeology and a look at Celtic Bury Ditches – A look at the work of the archaeologist with particular focus on the as yet un-excavated Iron Age site of Bury Ditches, Shropshire (produced in collaboration with Neil Hurd and Catuvellauni – a British Iron Age Living History Organisation)
Resource Boxes are available for hire by local schools and other organisations. Alternatively themed CD ROMs of photographs, documents and artefacts found in our Resource Boxes, along with all lesson plans and related activities, are available for purchase from BCHRC.
